VALLEY CHRISTIAN WRESTLERS MAKE HISTORY

Our high-school wrestling team made history last Saturday by competing in the first wrestling tournament ever held at Valley Christian High School.
Over 100 wrestlers from top wrestling programs competed in the First Annual Vikings JV Wrestling Tournament. Volunteers, including wrestler's families and our junior-high wrestlers, pulled together to stage a very successful event.

Of the seven Valley Christian wrestlers that competed, four took silver medals. The whole team wrestled strong and continues to improve daily.

Congratulations to our Vikings wrestlers for a tremendous effort and fantastic results. Well done!

16 STEPS

1. Never underestimate your opponent.
2. Work on your weaknesses until they become your strong points.
3. Remember that a great effort is usually the result of a great attitude.
4. Dedicate yourself to a mighty purpose.
5. Win with humility, lose with grace.
6. Ignore those who discourage you.
7. Work to improve your moral and spiritual strengths as well as your physical ones.
8. Remember that how you conduct yourself off the field is as important as how you conduct yourself on the field.
9. Talent is God-given…be humble. Fame is man-given…be thankful. Conceit is self-given…be careful.
10. Don't ask to be deprived of tension and discipline- these are the tools that shape success.
11. Do what has to be done, when it has to be done, and as well as it can be done.
12. Remember that when you're not working to improve, your competition is.
13. Always give your best.
14. Practice like a champion.
15. Play like a champion.
16. Live like a champion.

Young Vikings Wrestlers Top Off a Strong Season

Claton pinning LivermoreValley Christian High School Wrestlers finished off a very strong season. Competing at a junior varsity tournament as a guest of the East Bay Athletic League, the team lived up to their three goals: Be precise in techniques, be aggressive in action, and be ambassadors for Christ.  Top Viking finish of the day went to Clayton Carter, who pinned two opponents on his way to taking second place.

This young team, made up of freshman and sophomores, improved greatly over the course of the season and is well positioned to develop into first Varsity wrestling team in Valley Christian's history.

Mental discipline and physical intensity characterized the Viking Wrestling Team's performance at the Camillari Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Granada High School in Livermore on Saturday (1/16).  Dustin Jang, Derek Lokker, TJ Heal, Logan Slater, and Michael Wardhana applied their well-practiced techniques in order to control their opponents during much of the wrestling.  The team's development goal for Saturday was to improve their takedown skills, and they did.  Even against more experienced wrestlers, who often won the match, our guys were able to shut down the opponent's takedown shots and set up their own attack -- a key strategy in wrestling.

The two youngest members of the team, freshman Logan Slater and sophmore Dustin Jang, each pinned an opponent with some of the best technical wrestling of their season to date. Senior Derek Lokker also stuck and opponent to make three Viking pins for the day.
