Vikings vs. Christian Community School

Valley hosted Christian Community School this afternoon in our last game of the season. The Vikings once again dominated play against CCS winning 5 – 1. Scoring for Valley was, Jack Traube in the 15th min. of the 1st half assisted by Seth Lopez, Kyle Hanks at the 18th min. assisted by Jack Traube, Mauricio Blanco scoring at the 20th min. in the first half and the 12 th min. of the second half, assisted by Kyle Hanks on his second goal. Aaron Lee scored in the 28th min. of the first half unassisted. Jordan Murdoch and Sam Marco once again anchored Valley’s defense.

The Vikings did not make the league play-offs this season. Their overall win/loss record was 4 wins and 7 losses. Their league record was 3 wins and 5 losses. The team continued to play strong to the end and also continued to improve as a team. I was very proud of our players especially of all our new players to the game of soccer.

Vikings vs. Oakland Military

I am sorry to say we lost to Oakland Military 4 – 3  this afternoon in a very well played game by our boy’s. OMI had a couple of supper stars that were exceptional, yet after being down 3 – 1 late in the second half, we scored twice right at the end of the game and tied it up. We were so excited... And I was so proud of the boys for their come-back effort. Then, just after they kicked off, their Super Star (from almost half field) volleyed the ball up in the air to himself and kicked a high long shot at our goal that proceeded to bounce one time over our Keeper’s head into the goal and the game was over. It was heart breaking, yet I was so proud of the team for their come back late in the game. Kyle Hanks scored two of Valley’s goals with assists on both from Jordan Murdoch. Mauricio Blanco tied the game with about 3 min. left on a follow up shot. Jack Traube did an excellent job controlling the mid-field play for Valley.

Vikings vs. SRVCA

The Vikings hosted San Ramon Valley Christian (SRVCA) this afternoon in our second meeting with them this season, and lost 1 – 0. In spite of missing one of our Captains who is also one of our best players, the team played very well. It was a fairly close game. Jordan Murdoch played an outstanding game as one of our center fullbacks making several key plays that kept the other team from scoring. Waylan Chan and Griffin Smith also contributed strong performances on the defensive side of the field. The Vikings are now 3 and 6 overall and 2 and 5 in league play. We travel to Oakland on Thursday to play Oakland Military in a non-league match.

Vikings vs. Redwood Christian

The Vikings traveled to Redwood Christian this afternoon for the second game of the season. Redwood won the game 4 – 1. Kyle Hanks scored Valley’s loan goal in the 23rd minute of the second half from an assist by Jack Traube. Redwood out shot Valley 21 to 6 clearly dominating the game. Redwood scored two goals in the first half and two goals in the second. All the goals were good goals. There were no mistakes by the defense. Benji played a great game making 11 saves in the goal.  The boy’s played hard but were clearly out matched by a better skilled team. I predict that Redwood will win the championship this year.

Vikings vs. Fremont Christian

The Vikings hosted Fremont Christian this afternoon and lost a close battle 1-0.  Both teams took about 12 shots on goal but due to a miss handling of the ball in very windy conditions, one of Fremont’s shots got past our goal keeper. The Vikings travel to Christian Community School in Fremont tomorrow for our fifth league game of the season. Our league record is 1 win and 3 losses.

Vikings vs. San Ramon Valley Christian Academy

The Vikings traveled to Danville this afternoon to play San Ramon Valley Christian Academy in a league match. The Vikings lost the game 2 – 0 to a very strong team. In spite of the loss, the Vikings played some strong defense especially by Benji Figueroa our goal keeper. Benji made 15 saves during the game with one of them being a penalty kick attempt. It was truly one of the best goalie performances I have seen at Valley Christian in the past two years! An incredible performance!

The Vikings have a 2 win 3 loss overall record and a 1 win 2 loss league record. We will host Fremont Christian on March 7th for our second meeting with them this season.

Vikings vs. Contra Costa Christian

The rainy weather paused and took a breath to allow us to play a home game against Contra Costa Christian this afternoon. The Vikings dominated play and won the game 9 – 0.  Kyle Hanks scored a hat trick three goals, Yuvraj Mahadeshwar (the only sixth grader on the team) scored two goals, Leonardo Hodis finished off a corner kick play by heading in the Vikings first goal of the game, Jordan Murdoch scored an amazing goal from about 20 yards out from a free kick that went into the upper right corner, Mauricio Blanco added a goal along with Benji Figueroa. The Vikings exhibited the most ball control thus far this season. They spread the field well and got good play down the sidelines.  The team is maturing quickly this season as a group and showing good improvement. The Vikings will host Christian Community School on Tuesday next week in their third league game. Overall record now is 2 wins and 2 losses and 1  - 1 in league play.

Vikings vs. Tabernacle

The Vikings lost a real heart breaker tonight to Tabernacle in Concord.  After completely dominating the game out shooting them 16 to 1 and missing a Penalty Kick. The Game was tied at regulation time one to one. So, we played 2 five minute overtime periods with still no additional score. So, now we went to Penalty kicks. Five players from their team and five from our team. The 10 penalty kicks were taken and we were still tied (we missed two and made three and so did they). So, the second set of penalty kicks were taken by five different players from each team. They scored the first one and we missed our first one of the second set and lost the game.

It was an excellent practice game with the full gambit of what can happen in a soccer game but it is always tough to lose this way when you are clearly the better team on the field. Kyle Hanks scored his third goal of the season in regulation play.

The Vikings host Contra Costa Christian this Friday at 3:30 PM.

Vikings vs. Redwood Christian Recap

The Vikings hosted Redwood Christian this afternoon in it’s first home game of the season and got beat  4-1.  On a very windy afternoon on the hill the Vikings struggled to control mid-field and could not contain a super-star player on Redwood’s team that scored all 4 of their goals unassisted. In spite of marking this player man-to-man, he managed to dominate Redwood’s offense. Kyle Hanks scored Valley’s only goal on the only shot taken.

The Vikings head to Tabernacle on 2/22 for a non-league game.

Vikings vs. Fremont Christian Recap

The Junior High Boy’s kicked off their 2011 soccer season with a win over Fremont Christian with a score of 1 to 0.  Kyle Hanks scored from an assist by Sam Marco late in the second half.  Although play was a little ragged due to being the first game, the team came up strong defensively with an outstanding performance by goalie Benji Figueroa and strong performances by Jordan Murdoch and Silas Jackson in the fullback line. Seth Lopez, a new comer to the game of soccer showed impressive aggressiveness and fearless play in his first game.
